Are you in one of my candids? I hope you like the picture! Drop me a line - I'd love to hear from you and, in appreciation, present you with a 16x20" framed, signed print or two. Also, I'd be interested in your feelings about the picture ... if there's anything you recall about the moment it was taken that you'd like to share, that would be great. In any event - thanks for being so very photogenic!

Hi, I'm Bill Bernthal, a songwriter and paralegal living in New York City. In January of 2002 I moved from Manhattan to Long Island City, Queens. As I explored my new neighborhood and borough, I found myself wanting to take pictures of everything and everyone. In February I bought a Nikon CoolPix 885. It was small and easy to carry. I took lots of pictures, and a few of them were, it seemed, extraordinary. Encouraged, I got in the habit of carrying the camera wherever I went. Errands and commutes took on a whole new dimension. The odd gem continued to surface. I upgraded to a Canon PowerShot S50. In time, three book ideas took shape. New York City Candids presents the best of my stealth work (though I do get caught once or twice). The Magic of Long Island City, Queens documents the magic. Cityscapes (and Escapes) conveniently embraces favorites that weren’t right for the other two. I don’t find it hard to imagine profitable books being made of any of them, and I welcome inquiries from agents and publishers. One day, if sales permit, I plan to work less as a paralegal and spend more time writing and recording music, taking and editing photographs, and swimming. I strive, in any case, to steer circumstances into place for the making of my next album of original songs. Songs from my first, Darlings of Oblivion, recorded in 1995 with a band whose touring and recording credits include They Might Be Giants, XTC, Ruth Brown, Freedy Johnston, and Stanley Turrentine, are available for free download from Download.com.
